An award-winning beer brewed in an East Yorkshire village has gone on sale at dozens of Tesco stores across the region.

Brewed in Wold Newton, near Bridlington, the Wold Gold blonde beer is already on sale at various Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose stores.

But Wold Top Brewery’s new contract means the blonde beer is now also available at 44 Tesco supermarkets in Yorkshire and the North East.

And if Wold Gold proves to be a hit with Tesco customers it could be put on sale at stores across the country.

Kate Balchin, the brewery’s manager, says while early sales have been going well, they have been told by Tesco that a decision on whether the beer will go national will be taken next year.

The beer is already sold at 85 stores run by Waitrose, which also stocks the brewery’s Anglers Reward beer.

Wold Gold has won half-a-dozen top awards over the last eight years.
