A 63-year-old woman suffered serious facial injuries after being robbed in Bransholme on Thursday night (January 5).

The woman was walking down Littleham Close shortly before 6pm when she was assaulted and her handbag taken.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and other offences and is currently in police custody.

Prior to his arrest, Detective Chief Inspector Nicky Miller, Humberside Police robbery lead, said: “This is a shocking incident where a potentially vulnerable woman has sustained serious facial injuries. We will be prioritising the investigation to identify the despicable man and arrest him as quickly as possible.

“Incidents of this nature are rare, but residents will undoubtedly be shocked that it has happened in their neighbourhood and we will therefore have extra officers in the area providing reassurance and carrying out enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on non-emergency number 101.
