Potential adopters are being invited to attend a special Beverley drop-in session next week to find out more about what it involves.

Next Wednesday’s (March 16) UK-wide Big Adoption Day sees Beverley Carers’ Centre opens it doors for the event between 10am and 2pm.

Visitors to the 18 Wednesday Market venue can chat with East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s adoption team.

Couples as well as single people are being considered. Children over four years old, siblings plus children with extra needs particularly need new families.

People interested can visit the council’s adoption website, call 01482 396469 or just turn up on the day.

Julie Abraham, an East Riding councillor with special responsibilities for children, said: “Big Adoption Day is important in reminding people about the backgrounds of the children waiting for adoption and the difference adoption can make to a child’s life.

“We know from existing adoptive families that it can be challenging, but the rewards are huge. This is a chance to transform a child’s life forever.”

Adoption manager Ian Wilson said: “There are no blanket bans in adoption, so please don’t think we’ll turn you down because you are over 40, single or don’t own your own home.

“What we really need are people who can help a child thrive in their new family and help them meet their full potential.”
