Hull student Charli Beard admits she is “hyped but daunted” at the thought of performing in the next round of the X Factor.

The 17-year-old, who used to suffer from acute stage fright, will compete against 63 other acts in the live Six Chair Challenge.

She is hoping to impress Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw, having already wowed them with her rendition of David Guetta’s Without You, as they whittle down the numbers ahead of the Judges’ Houses round.

“It’s amazing. At the time I actually found out, I couldn’t have been more hyped and relieved at the same time,” says the teenager. “But also it’s daunting. I was painfully shy on stage when I was younger.”

Beard has been singing since she was seven years old. She grew up performing in Hull, doing small gigs around the city, although she sometimes found it difficult to control her emotions, particularly on bigger stages.

But her performance at Boot Camp proved her fears are a thing of the past. Now she is determined to progress even further in the competition.
