Our region’s seen the smallest drop in advertised salaries in the UK, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Yorkshire’s seen the smallest drop in advertised salaries anywhere in the UK over the past 12 months.

Research by Adzuna’s found the amount of cash being offered for a new job has fallen by more than 3% across the country – but only 0.1% in our area.

Becky Harkins – who wrote the report –  says starting salaries going down is actually a positive sign:

“Since the recession, employers have been investing in new talent. So any time there’s been a little bit of spare money, it’s gone into trying to pull new people into the business. Now, that money is finally going back into the business and rewarding the loyalty of people that have stuck with their company.”

She says we’re leading the way:

“The decrease has been quite recent. If you look back a couple of months, Yorkshire was one of the fastest growing regions in the UK for salary growth; and what we’re seeing now, is that improvement still exists, it’s just that now it’s a slightly smaller dip.”
