CoCo Couture Nail and Beauty Bar is a relatively new arrival on Newland Avenue. The salon was opened in May 2015 by 24-year-old Shanice Bulman, when she could no longer keep up with the demand for the unique bedazzled creations she created in her East Hull living room.

The self-styled ‘blingderella’ now employs a team of four to polish, buff and add sparkle to customers from across the region and even further afield.

Forget the selfie, 2016 is all about the ‘nelfie’ with both celebrities and us regular folk putting as much effort into our nail art as our outfits. Coco’s does not disappoint with the variety of designs on offer, whether you want something for everyday or a show-stopping mani for a special occasion. You only need to check out their Facebook page to find everything from a classic French manicure to designs combining glitter, crystals and hand drawn patterns.

The salon buzzes with a cool, laid back vibe but, despite appearances, its customers vary and you will find fashion-conscious teenagers and students sat alongside grandmothers and office workers popping in for a post-shift preen.

A quote from Coco Chanel herself adorns one wall, proclaiming that ‘The best colour in the whole world is one that looks good on you’, but it can be a little hard to work out what that is with dozens on display. Whether you’re in the mood for on-trend short nude nails as seen on Kim Kardashian, or fancy channelling Rihanna’s risqué red talons, you won’t be disappointed.

But don’t worry if you don’t know your shellac from your acrylic or the difference between coffin, almond and stiletto shape; all customers who walk into the stylish monochrome salon are greeted warmly by the team, who will happily talk you through what’s on offer and recommend the right option for you.

Coco’s is most famous for its Swarovski-encrusted designs, where Shanice and the team hand-place crystals onto nails in unique patterns, sometimes even covering entire nails. If you prefer something simpler, Opi Gel Polish (£16) can be applied to both acrylic and natural nails and lasts for two weeks. A full set of acrylic nails (including polish) starts from £29 with crystal designs from £2.

The first floor is home to the beauty bar that offers a range of services, including the Coco Brow (£12) and their most popular product, a full set of eyelash extensions (£50) guaranteed to give anyone the doe-eyed Bambi look.

If you feel like a pampering, the Coco Couture Pedicure (£19) includes a soothing petal foot soak, leg scrub, deep lower leg and foot massage, delivering flip-flop-worthy toes that deserve to be on show whatever the weather. You can also book a full body massage (£40) or treat your skin with a facial (from £17).

Booking is essential due to the popularity of this unique nail bar, so make sure to give them a call in plenty of time to secure your appointment.
