A cuppa and some choccy

Trinity Indoor Market is home to a variety of independent traders, from the traditional fruiterer and fishmonger, to a brilliant vinyl emporium and stalls filled with vintage knickknacks. The market will soon undergo redevelopment inspired by Covent Garden, with the completion date set in time for our year as the UK City of Culture 2017. In the meantime, I recommend popping down to grab a bite to eat, have a mooch around and support local businesses in the process.

One trader that I regularly visit is Cocoa Chocolatier and Patisserie, with “Chocolate Jon” presenting a wonderland of confectionery, cakes and other sweet treats handmade right there on-site. I hugely recommend trying something different every time, as the candied orange peel and violet cremes introduced me to entirely new flavours. The brownies are also hugely celebrated, offering taste sensations the likes of peanut butter, salted caramel and chilli Aztec. Absolutely delicious.

Just a few feet away from the chocolate stall is Caffeinated, owned by the aptly named Joe. Using beans from The Blending Room as well as guest roasts, every cup is expertly made to perfection, be it an eye-opening espresso or heavenly hot chocolate. Due to the openness of the stall and friendliness of the team, you can watch every stage of the barista process if you want to discover exactly how bean becomes beverage. What’s especially charming is how the two businesses work together, adding to the already strong community spirit inside this historic Grade II listed building dating from 1904.

Trinity Indoor Market is accessible via Lowgate, Hepworth Arcade and Trinity House Lane. Cocoa Chocolatier and Caffeinated are open 8am-4pm Monday-Saturday.
