Alastair Cook chose to bat first, on a cloudy morning at The Oval, in the fourth and final Investec Test against Pakistan.

Cook was not dissuaded by either the overhead conditions or a green pitch, as his team bid for a third successive win and 3-1 series success which could mean England top the International Cricket Council world rankings.

As planned, England stuck with the line-up which won by 141 runs at Edgbaston.

Pakistan made two changes to their team beaten last week.

The first, debutant batting all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed coming into the middle order with out-of-form opener Mohammad Hafeez left out, was expected.

Wahab Riaz also returned, in a like-for-like swap for his fellow left-armer Rahat Ali.
