Great Britain’s exceptional display at the World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow means they will send a full women’s team to next year’s Olympics.

Requiring a top-eight finish after the two-day qualification competition, the 227.162-point score not only ensures their place in Tuesday’s team final but, most importantly, the Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Becky Downie, Ellie Downie, Ruby Harrold, Claudia Fragapane, Amy Tinkler and Kelly Simm placed third at the SSE Hydro Glasgow – Britain’s best-ever result in qualifying for an Olympics.

“We are incredibly proud to have secured Great Britain place at Rio 2016,” Becky Downie told british-gymastics.org.

“Coming in to this championships all our focus was on producing the best team results we could and to have placed third – our best ever Olympic qualifying performance – is very special.”

Amongst the performances in Glasgow was 15-year-old Tinkler, who marks her senior World Championships debut with an appearance in Thursday’s all-around final having qualified seventh.

Harrold qualified and also makes next weekend’s bars final, while Commonwealth champion Fragapane will compete in the floor final alongside Downie, who will also take part in the vault final.
