Kell Brook has ruled out a fight with British rival Amir Khan this year as he focuses on chasing the winner of Floyd Mayweather’s super-fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Connections of Brook, who makes the first defence of his IBF welterweight title against Jo Jo Dan in Sheffield on Saturday, had been in preliminary talks over a summer bout with the Bolton star.

But now Brook insists Khan is not on his immediate agenda and instead he aims to head to Las Vegas in May to pursue more high-profile possibilities.

Brook told ESPN: “I think the Amir Khan fight is gone for this year.

“I’m the world champion and I will fight some other massive name. I’m not interested in what he does next now.

” It makes sense to do a unification fight. No contact has been made yet with either of them (Mayweather or Pacquiao) and I’m just focusing on my mandatory challenge at the moment, but I want to be involved in the big fights.”

Khan has fought just twice in the last two years after spending much of that period in the mistaken belief that he was lined up as Mayweather’s next opponent.

After more than a year out of the ring he returned with a points win over Luis Collazo on his welterweight debut last May, then also outpointed Devon Alexander in December.
