Steven Burke has recovered from a broken collarbone to be selected in the Great Britain team for the Track World Championships in Paris later this month.

The Olympic champion has made a swift recovery following surgery after a training accident in early January, and is included in the men’s endurance group which will contest the team pursuit on the opening day of the February 18 to 22 competition.

Joanna Rowsell, who won individual and team pursuit titles at the 2014 Track World Championships in Colombia, leads the women’s endurance group.

British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton said: “I’m pleased Steve Burke has made the team which is a credit to him and the hard work of the support staff.

“We saw some promising performances during the World Cup season and I’m looking for the team to drive this momentum into the World Championships.”

Britain have won the last four world gold medals in the women’s team pursuit, plus Olympic and European titles, with Rowsell joined by fellow London 2012 gold medallist Laura Trott, 2014 world champions Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald and Ciara Horne in the squad.

Three-time Olympic champion Jason Kenny leads the men’s sprint squad, while the women’s sprint squad is led by Jess Varnish and features former heptathlete Katy Marchant.

Academy rider Matthew Gibson joins Burke and two-time Olympic champion Ed Clancy in the men’s endurance group.

The 2016 Track World Championships, the final major event on the track prior to the Rio de Janerio Olympics, take place in London.
