Teen sensation Borna Coric saw off childhood hero Rafael Nadal to set up a Basle semi-final showdown with David Goffin.

The 17-year-old Croatian backed up hugely-impressive wins over Ernests Gulbis and Andrey Golubev by dispatching second seed Nadal 6-2 7-6 (7/4).

The world number 124 held his nerve to grind past Spain’s 14-time Grand Slam champion and set up a last-four meeting with Goffin, who unseated fourth seed Milos Raonic.

Belgian Goffin held off Raonic’s big serve to prevail 6-7 (3/7) 6-3 6-4, after Ivo Karlovic eased past Benjamin Becker 6-4 6-4.

Nadal confirmed ahead of his Coric clash that he had pulled out of next week’s Paris Masters, casting doubt on his participation at next month’s ATP World Tour Finals.

And immediately after his shock defeat to Coric, the world number three confirmed he will indeed miss the ATP showdown.

The world number three had cited “personal reasons” for his Paris withdrawal, but the Spaniard battled through appendicitis in Basle this week.

The 28-year-old could now undergo surgery for the problem following his tournament exit.
