England made changes for the first time at the World Cup as Alex Hales and Chris Jordan were drafted in for their must-win World Cup clash against Bangladesh in Adelaide.

England had stuck with the same team through their opening four games but a return of just one win against lowly Scotland forced a reshuffle that left out-of-form Gary Ballance and Steven Finn on the sidelines.

Ballance’s exclusion had been touted, after he scored just 36 runs in four innings, while Finn was the bowler to pay for England allowing Sri Lanka to comfortably track down a record chase in Wellington last time out.

Hales’ call-up came despite the fact the Nottinghamshire batsman has not played a competitive match after two months on tour, although also with a match-changing potential that had prompted calls for his inclusion during the week.

England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bowl first in a game his side must win or they will suffer the indignity of a group-stage exit.
