England took drastic measures to ensure a better contest in their second warm-up match in the West Indies, parachuting Jonathan Trott, Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow into the St Kitts & Nevis Invitation XI.

An agreement had already been struck to allow the tourists to bowl for a full 90 overs on day one, regardless of how many wickets tumbled, but with concerns over the quality of the local batting line-up still nagging, the hosts agreed to add the English trio to their top four.

That offers the unusual sight of Trott opening the batting against the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, and should tell coach Peter Moores more about his side’s form than another day of domination against outclassed opponents.
