Mo Farah clocked the fastest 10,000 metres of 2015 as he claimed victory on the first day of the Diamond League event in Eugene on Friday.

The double Olympic champion finished in 26 minutes 50.97 seconds in the most competitive race of the year to date, finishing 0.89secs clear of Kenya’s Paul Kipngetich Tanui with another Kenyan, Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor in third.

Lorraine Ugen finished third in the long jump as she went 6.89 metres with fellow Brit Shara Proctor in fourth on 6.70m.

American Tianna Bartoletta won the event with a world-leading jump of 7.11m with Canada’s Christabel Nettey in second.

In the day’s other events, Poland’s Piotr Malachowski won the discus, American Joe Kovacs took victory in the shot putt and Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia won the 5,000m.
