Heather Watson is a win away from a third WTA title after beating Caroline Garcia to reach the final of the Abierto Monterrey Afirme.

The 23-year-old – fresh from her brilliant win over Caroline Wozniacki on Friday – was a 6-1 6-2 victor and will now meet Kirsten Flipkens in the final after her success over Anett Kontaveit.

Watson has lost her two career meetings with 30-year-old Belgian Flipkens but if she can reverse that trend she can add to the titles she won in Japan (October 2012) and Hobart (January 2015).

This was Watson’s third career win over Garcia and came with the minimum of fuss.

She sent down five aces and was efficient on her first serve, winning 86 per cent of the points on it.

Flipkens secured her final berth with a straight-sets win over Kontaveit, 7-6 (8/6) 6-4.
