Caroline Wozniacki faces a fitness battle to be ready for action at Wimbledon after withdrawing from her semi-final against Belinda Bencic at the Aegon International in Eastbourne.

Wozniacki withdrew with back trouble when 3-0 down to Bencic in the first set at Eastbourne on Friday, and will be aiming for a quick recovery in time for SW19.

Wozniacki lasted just 10 minutes against Bencic at Eastbourne, dropping serve twice before retiring.

Wimbledon’s fifth seed is due to face China’s Saisai Zheng in first round action on Tuesday in south west London.

Swiss teenager Bencic will now face ninth seed Agnieska Radwanska in the Eastbourne final.

Poland’s world number 13 Radwanska edged out America’s Sloane Stephens in Friday’s first semi-final, prevailing 6-1 6-7 (7/3) 6-2.

The 2008 Eastbourne champion admitted her delight to be gunning for a second title on the south coast at the weekend.

“First of all I’m just very, very happy to be in the final again,” said Radwanska.

“Playing with the wind is probably the most difficult for the players, and it was blowing strongly pretty much the whole match.

“I had to fight for each ball because she was playing great.

“I had some chances in the second set but she was just too good in the important moments and I’m just glad to finish the match in three sets.”
