James Anderson returned from a calf injury to bolster the England attack in the second Test against South Africa at Newlands.

Anderson had been touch-and-go having missed the series opener and bowled just five overs on tour, but was named ahead of Chris Woakes having come through a fitness test on Friday.

Captain Alastair Cook won the toss and chose to bat under cloudless skies Cape Town, guaranteeing Anderson an extra rest before being pitched into action.

The Proteas, having been badly out of sorts during a 241-run defeat in Durban, made three changes to their XI.

Kagiso Rabada replaced Dale Steyn (shoulder) and fellow seamer Chris Morris was handed a debut after Kyle Abbott failed a fitness test on his hamstring.

Quinton De Kock was also added to the team in place of JP Duminy, and will relieve AB De Villiers of wicket-keeping duties.
