British Swimming has announced its team for this summer’s World Championships in Kazan with Olympic silver-medallist Michael Jamieson missing out.

Adam Peaty and Jazz Carlin are among the leading lights in the 30-strong squad but there is no place for Jamieson who won silver in the 200 metre breaststroke at London 2012.

Peaty and Carlin both posted qualification standard times as they achieved various successes at last week’s British Championships in London, which saw the former claim a hat-trick of breaststroke titles – setting a new world record in the 100m – and the latter win a trio of freestyle golds.

The event brought further disappointment for Jamieson, though, with him only able to finish sixth in his event.

The Scot also had a below-par Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last summer.

The other swimmers in the squad for the Russia showpiece that secured their berths with efforts last week are James Guy, Chris Walker-Hebborn, Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, Hannah Miley, Elizabeth Simmonds and Roberto Pavoni, who last year had his UK Sport funding cut.

The likes of Fran Halsall – Great Britain’s only medallist at the 2013 World Championships with a 50m freestyle bronze – and two-time 50m backstroke world champion Liam Tancock are also included in the party.

British Swimming head coach Bill Furniss said: “It was a tough week (last week) but we saw some very good performances as both athletes and coaches rose to the challenge.

“As a result of those performances I feel we’ve got a well balanced team with particular strength in depth across several events.

“The way we have selected the team has enabled us to maximise our strengths both in individual events and across the relays.

“The challenge for everyone is to move our performances on between now and the summer.

“Athletes have done a good job to make the team but our primary focus is to improve performances in the summer and we will leave no stone unturned in pursuit of this.”

The swimming events at the World Championships take place between August 2 and 9.
