Bayern Munich are celebrating a record 25th Bundesliga title and third in a row after Wolfsburg’s 1-0 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday.

The result leaves Bayern, who beat Hertha Berlin 1-0 on Saturday, 15 points clear at the top with four matches left to play.

That makes it Bayern’s third-quickest title, matching the achievement of 1972/73 and 2002/03, the club said.

“Retaining the title is a magnificent achievement. All credit to the coach and the team,” Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on the club website.

“They’ve been fantastic throughout, in a season following a World Cup where we had a host of players in action.”

With Bayern clinching the title on an off-day, players used Twitter to celebrate.

“It’s amazing to win 3 league title in three years with @FCBayern today is a very happy day !! # MiaSanMia #Champions” wrote Javi Martinez, who joined from Athletic Bilbao in 2012, just in time for the start of Bayern’s current run of domination.

Thiago Alcantara, who signed from Barcelona two years ago, added: “Deutscher Meister #2!!! Congrats to all the FC Bayern family. #MiaSanMeister !!!”

Pep Guardiola, who has overseen the last two Bundesliga titles, now has 19 major honours to his name as a coach.

Bayern remain in the hunt for more this season, having reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and the DFB Pokal.

They face rivals Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final of the latter on Tuesday, and have been drawn against Guardiola’s old employers Barcelona in the Champions League.

With those matches all on the immediate horizon, the title celebrations will have to wait.

“At some point we’ll be up there on the Town Hall balcony, and we’ll go for it with our fans!” captain Philipp Lahm said.
