Rutherford and Muir victorious

Olympic champion Greg Rutherford and Laura Muir were both victorious Britons at Thursday’s Diamond League meeting in Oslo.

The 28-year-old long jumper beat American Michael Hartfield by 21 centimetres when leaping 8.25 metres in the third round, while Muir won the women’s 1,500m, taking the lead with 700m to go before coming home in four minutes and 00.39 seconds to edge out Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya.

Richard Kilty was third in the men’s 200m with a time of 20.54secs – France’s Christophe Lemaitre took first place with 20.21secs – and Eilidh Child was sixth in the 400m hurdles after racing home in 55.97secs.

Elsewhere, Matthew Hudson-Smith finished second to Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas in the 400m, with Martyn Rooney taking fourth place and Delano Williams seventh, while Asha Philip came fifth in the 100m as Ivorian sprinter Murielle Ahoure streaked home in just 11.03secs.
