Michael Schumacher’s 16-year-old son, Mick, is to make his Formula 4 debut on Saturday.

While his seven-time world champion father continues to recover privately from a life-threatening skiing accident at the end of 2013, Mick Schumacher will drive his Van Amersfoort car in Oschersleben, Germany.

It is to be a debut under the Schumacher name for the teenager, who has previously driven under his mother’s maiden name in go-kart racing.

Mick Schumacher returned a 10th-fastest time in Friday’s qualifying session, with a best lap of one minute 27.654 seconds.

Michael Schumacher remains under private care at his home in Switzerland following the accident in France which left him in with severe head injuries.
