Surrey say Rory Burns and Moises Henriques are “in decent shape” following the frightening collision that saw Sunday’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Sussex abandoned.

The pair were knocked unconscious when they collided going for a high catch in the Arundel outfield and received ambulance treatment for around 40 minutes before the match was abandoned.

Overseas signing Henriques broke his jaw in three places, while Burns had blood pouring from cuts above and below his left eye.

They both regained consciousness before leaving the ground and Surrey posted an encouraging update on their Twitter account on Monday morning.

It read: “Latest news on the two boys..Both Rory and Moises are in decent shape following their operations overnight..further updates later in the day”

Director of cricket Alec Stewart, the former Surrey and England wicketkeeper-batsman, also posted a picture of Burns smiling in his hospital bed, accompanied by a member of medical staff giving a thumbs-up gesture.

Henriques still faces dental surgery after the nasty collision.

Surrey are back in action on Monday, against Glamorgan at Guildford in the LV= County Championship.
