Geraint Thomas remains 10th in Paris-Nice after the first stage was won by Norway’s Alexander Kristoff following a sprint finish.

The Brit, who also ran well in Sunday’s prologue, is 13 seconds behind leader Michal Kwiatkowski of Etixx-Quick Step and is the top Team Sky rider with Bradley Wiggins in 12th and level with Richie Porte.

Katusha rider Kristoff beat Nacer Bouhanni to the line at the end of the 196.5km stage from Saint-Remy-les-Chevreuse to Contres to take the stage win ahead of Tuesday’s 172km stretch between Saint-Aignan and Saint-Amand-Montrond.

Although Kwaitkowski leads the way, there was bad news for his Etixx team-mate Tom Boonen after he suffered a dislocated broken collarbone following a fall 20km from the finish.
