Murali Vijay made Australia’s bowlers toil on the opening day of the second Test in Brisbane.

The opening batsman, who fell one run short of scoring a second-innings century during India’s 48-run defeat in the first Test in Adelaide, made no mistake at The Gabba with his 213-ball knock of 144, which included 22 fours.

Vijay’s sterling effort helped India to a promising total of 311 for four at the close as they attempt to square the four-match series at 1-1. Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma will resume on Thursday morning on 75 and 26 respectively.
