Could thousands of pounds be hiding away in your loft? Find out at Hull City Hall this Thursday.

The popular BBC antiques series Flog It! is coming to the city this week, where Paul Martin and his team of experts will be on hand for a free valuation day.

“People are welcome to bring along up to three antiques or collectables that they’ve always wondered about or would like information on,” Alex Habgood, Series Location Manager, tells us.

After being valued, your item may even get chosen to be filmed for an episode of the programme and sent to Golding Young Auctions in Lincoln.

“The items don’t necessarily have to be old; we are increasingly seeing objects from the 70s and even 80s,” Alex explains. “Whether it’s a family heirloom that you’ve had for years or something you picked up at a car boot sale last week, our experts would love you to bring it along to the City Hall.”

Presenter Paul is delighted to be returning to Hull: “It’s great to bring Flog It! back to East Yorkshire. I am so pleased to get another opportunity to share this part of the world with our viewers. We always receive a warm welcome whenever we come to the county and I’m hoping plenty of people take the chance to bring along their items to show us.”

Paul is joined by Caroline Hawley, Nick Hall and David Harper.

“I think people enjoy Flog It! for a number of reasons,” Alex continues. “Paul’s films are a great way for people to learn about parts of the UK they may never have the chance to visit. It’s also a fascinating window into the past. Every object we include has a story behind it. Some people will also be watching hoping to see something on the show that they own and discover its value.”

In total, there will be four episodes in the new season that will feature Hull City Hall. Each will be transmitted within the next eighteen months.

“Quite often, it’s an object that people are reluctant to bring along because they don’t think it’s very good, which then turns out to have the best story and an unexpected value. Let our experts see it and you may end up with a nice surprise.”

In fact, one of the most interesting antiques was found not too far from the Humber, as Alex reveals:

“Over the 17 series of Flog It! we’ve filmed hundreds of objects. One of the rarest pieces that we uncovered was found not far from Hull, in Scunthorpe. It was a rare, aboriginal tribal shield that sold at auction for £30,000.

The shield ended up being purchased by a museum in Australia, where it is now on display.

“The lady who owned it had kept the shield hidden at the back of her wardrobe because she didn’t like it! That sort of thing doesn’t happen very often but when it does it’s incredibly exciting.”

So what are you waiting for? Get rummaging in your cupboards and see if anything catches your eye. The BBC One’s Flog It! is at Hull City Hall from 9:30am until 4pm on Thursday 11 January. Any items selected to go under the hammer will be taken to Golding Young’s salesroom in Lincoln on Wednesday 31 January.
