Bin lorry crashes into pedestrians

E mergency services have been called to a “serious incident” in which it is understood a bin lorry has crashed into a group of pedestrians.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed there is an “ongoing serious incident” in Glasgow’s George Square close to Queen Street Station.

Roads surrounding George Square, in the city centre, have been closed.

The city centre was packed with Christmas shoppers at the time.

The lorry crashed into the side of the Millennium Hotel, which is next to the station.

As many as six ambulances are at the scene, along with the police and fire service.

Describing the scene on Twitter, Brett Molloy ‏tweeted: “Christ something major has kicked off at Queen St.

“Holy s*** this major, 2 Bodies on the road, traffic lights down the lot scary shit.

“Whole of George square is shut off, bodies on the road. Scary man.

“Horrible, horrible scenes. Even worse at this time of the year.

“City centre is an eerie, eerie place right now.”

Kevin @km747 tweeted: ” Horrific scenes in George Square. Here now and it’s clear to say lives have been lost.

“Injuries reported after lorry crash-from what I’m seeing there are multiple casualties. Driver is lucid #Georgesquare”
