A 10 year-old boy is in hospital after being hit by an unmarked police car which was heading towards an emergency.

The youngster was hit as he crossed Plumstead High Street, near the junction with Rippolson Road, in south east London, at about 3.05pm today.

London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the scene and the boy was taken to an east London hospital.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard, who said his injuries are not serious, added: “Next of kin have been informed.

“The police car was en route to an emergency call at the time of collision.

“An investigation into the collision will be carried out by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.”

Nearby roads were closed off for nearly two hours after the crash.
