Detectives are investigating a “despicable” break-in at the home of an elderly cyclist who was killed in a road accident.

A window in the front door of the 74-year-old man’s home was found smashed this morning, two days after he was fatally injured near Boston in Lincolnshire.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released by police, died in hospital after a collision with a car in nearby Frithville on Thursday afternoon.

Officers were called to the pensioner’s home in Tennyson Close, Boston, at 9am today.

Detective Constable Sue-Ellen Wilson, from Boston CID, said: “All burglaries are abhorrent but to break into the home of someone who recently died in very tragic circumstances is a despicable crime.

“Extra police patrols are being carried out in the area and I am urging anyone with information about the burglary to contact me or approach one of the local officers.

“Alternatively, you can provide information in complete anonymity by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
