Shocking images of the moment a drink driver swerves erratically before crashing and flipping his car has been captured on camera.

The drink driver has been condemned by police for putting “lives in jeopardy” after the incident was caught on a dashboard-mounted camera (dash-cam) by a member of the public.

The video has been released by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in a bid to warn people of the dangers of driving under the influence.

It shows the driver, who was three times over the limit, swerving between lanes, braking erratically and driving without lights on.

He eventually crashes into a parked vehicle on Victoria Street in Newtown, Wigan, flipping his car onto its roof.

The video was released as GMP came to the end of its summer drink and drug drive operation ‘None for the Road’.

Sgt John Brennan from the force’s Roads Policing Unit said: “The footage shows the dangers drink drivers pose to innocent members of the public.

“Luckily nobody was seriously injured in this collision but it could have been a very different story.

“The drink driver in question puts other road users lives in jeopardy as he swerves across lanes and drives without lights on, oblivious to warnings from other motorists.

“Never underestimate the effect alcohol can have on your ability to drive, even the smallest amount can pose a risk. The safest amount is none at all.

“If you suspect a drink or drug driver may be putting themselves and others at risk please dial 999.”

The driver was banned from driving for 26 months.
