Catatonia’s Cerys to collect MBE

Welsh singer and radio presenter Cerys Matthews will be awarded an MBE today for services to music.

The 45-year-old, who was born in Cardiff and raised in Swansea, is b est known as the lead singer of the band Catatonia, whose hits included Road Rage and Mulder And Scully. She is also an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, among other charities.

In 2007 she was a contestant on the ITV show I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! Since 2008 she has presented a show on BBC Radio 6 Music.

Also receiving honours from the Prince of Wales at the Buckingham Palace ceremony will be Viscountess Penelope Cobham, chairwoman of VisitEngland, who is being presented with a CBE for services to tourism.
