Dance trio Years & Years has beaten Ellie Goulding to the Official Charts number one spot with their single King.

The electro-dance track, which topped the BBC’s Sound Of 2015 poll earlier this year, entered the charts straight at number one.

King sold 101,000 copies according to the Official Charts Company.

It knocked Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do down to number two after a four week reign at the top.

Frontman Olly Alexander said: “I don’t think any of us thought we’d be number one. No one told us it would be number one. They said it wouldn’t get to number one, but it did.”

Rhianna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney’s Four Five Seconds dropped from number three to number five, while Hozier’s Take Me To Church fell two places to number four.

The Weeknd fell one place to number five with their track Earned It.

In the albums chart, Noel Gallagher and his band High Flying Birds landed straight in at number one on this week’s Official Albums Chart.

The band’s second album Chasing Yesterday racked up combined sales of 89,000, making it the fastest-selling LP of the year so far.

Chasing Yesterday, which follows their chart-topping 2011 self-titled debut, was streamed 1,700 times over the past seven days.

The most-streamed album was Ed Sheeran’s X with 3,700 plays.

Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour was number two in the album chart while X came in at number three.
