A former lover of jailed paedophile rock star Ian Watkins sent him child abuse images, a court heard today.

Joanne Mjadzelics, 39, sent the Lostprophets singer five pictures from her mobile phone depicting the sexual abuse of young children alongside perverted messages to the musician.

She later added: “You get the pixs? I have more.”

Cardiff Crown Court heard that Mjadzelics sent the pictures and messages to Watkins – jailed for 35 years for trying to rape a baby – in September 2011.

Mjadzelics insisted she was trying to trap her former lover and bring him to justice as the police “did nothing” when she reported it to them.

The court heard details of what Mjadzelics said to detectives in a series of interviews following her arrest in January 2013 as part of Operation Globe – a worldwide investigation into Watkins’ paedophile activities.

During the interviews, Mjadzelics claimed that Watkins had forced her to sign a gagging order in order to stop her revealing his perverted secrets.

Detectives took Mjadzelics through pages and pages of transcripts of online chat they recovered from Watkins’ computer in which they discussed the kidnap, rape and killing of young girls.

Watkins also talked of getting Mjadzelics pregnant so that he could rape their baby.

Asked about the online chat, Mjadzelics told detectives: “I don’t remember. I don’t have any explanation for what’s said or what’s going through my mind when I said it.”

Mjadzelics told the interviewing officers that she reported the singer to the police in February 2012 and next saw him the following April.

She said: “Nothing had been done about it, so I knew I needed to do something.”

Mjadzelics said she needed Watkins to “trust her” and “get evidence”.

“The only time I contacted him was to try and trap him and I had to go that far,” she told police.

Jurors have previously been told that Watkins and Mjadzelics made a sex tape in a Cardiff hotel where they shared his fantasies of child abuse and death.

The defendant, of Thorne Road, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, denies four charges of possessing indecent images of children, two charges of distributing indecent images of children and one charge of encouraging Watkins to send her an indecent image of a child, which are alleged to have taken place between May and September 2011.

Mjadzelics claims she was trying to trap the musician and help bring him to justice.

She accepts she was in possession of four indecent images of children, had sent an indecent image of a child and had twice encouraged Watkins to send her an image of child rape.

But she told police after her arrest that she had a legitimate reason for keeping the images in order to expose Watkins as a paedophile.

Mjadzelics told police that she had taken cocaine with and without Watkins but after stopping using the drug she realised the conversations with him were wrong.
