A body discovered at a flat in south Wales yesterday is that of a missing 47-year-old woman, police have confirmed.

The woman, who is from the Pontypridd area, was last seen by family at about 12.45pm on Tuesday and was reported missing the following day.

Inquiries into her disappearance revealed that she left a pub, the Skinny Dog Public House, with a 50-year-old man on Tuesday evening.

Officers searched the man’s flat, at Andrews Court, Rickards Street, Graig, and discovered the woman’s body.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.

South Wales Police are appealing for anyone at the Skinny Dog between 9pm and 11pm on Tuesday, or those living near the suspect’s address, to come forward.

Detective superintendent Paul Hurley said: “We would like to speak to anybody who thinks they may have information that can help our investigation.

“No matter how insignificant the information may seem, we would like people to contact us.

“In particular, we want to speak to anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the vicinity of Andrews Court, Rickards Street, where the body was found, and also to anyone who may have seen something suspicious near the rugby ground on Sardis Road in the past couple of days.

“The victim’s family is receiving support from specially-trained officers during this traumatic time.

“We have a team of detectives and the support of specialist resources working on this inquiry and while we understand it will alarm the community, this is an isolated incident and we do have somebody in custody.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the force on 101 quoting reference 140670 or they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
