The funeral of late Visage singer Steve Strange will be held in south Wales today – with several big names in pop set to attend.

New romantic icon Strange, whose hits include Fade to Grey and In The Year 2525, died last month while on holiday in Egypt.

Many of the flamboyant vocalist’s famous friends from the 1980s – members of Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran as well as lifelong friend Boy George – have confirmed they will be attending his send-off at All Saints Church in Porthcawl.

Close pal Jayce Lewis said the funeral will be open to the public and there will be a speaker system outside the church to relay the service to those who cannot get inside.

A private wake will later be held at the Hi-Tide Inn where some members of Visage are expected to play.

“Steve’s family want the funeral to be a big, bold celebration of what Steve has done and who he was,” said Mr Lewis.

“There’s no better way to deal with such a tragic loss than to turn it into a celebration of his life.”
