Prince Harry will meet US president Barack Obama at the White House during his brief trip to America today to promote his Invictus Games.

The two men will sit down in the famous Oval Office for an informal chat during Harry’s one-day visit to the US.

During the day the prince and the first lady Michelle Obama will meet wounded servicemen and women undergoing rehab at a US military base.

Harry is making the trip to highlight his up-coming Invictus Games, a Paralympic-style championship for injured military personnel from across the globe being staged in Orlando in 2016.

The prince and the US first lady will be joined by Jill Biden, the wife of vice-president Joe Biden, when they tour Fort Belvoir military base in Virginia.

Mrs Biden visited the UK in 2014 and saw athletes competing in the inaugural Invictus Games.

She and Mrs Obama are keen supporters of forces’ families in the US and in 2011 launched Joining Forces, an initiative that called on Americans to rally round veterans and provide education and employment opportunities for them.

During the visit to Fort Belvoir, the party will tour the USO (United Service Organisations) Warrior and Family Centre, which is a state-of-the art facility specifically designed to support wounded, injured or ill troops, their families and carers.

They will also watch a short adaptive sports event, similar to one that will feature in the Invictus Games, before each delivers a short speech.

Later in the day, Harry will attend an Invictus Games board meeting and reception at the British Ambassador’s residence in Washington.
