Page, widely regarded as one of the greatest rock guitarists ever, was an in-demand session man before finding fame and played on some of the biggest hits of the 1960s including songs by The Who, The Kinks and Them.

He also had a stint with pioneering rockers The Yardbirds, playing alongside Jeff Beck and then later replacing him in the group which eventually became Led Zeppelin.

Tonight’s awards will also see Suede named as winners of the Godlike Genius award.

The Clash, Paul Weller, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers, New Order and Joy Division, Dave Grohl, Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr and Blondie are among previous winners.
