Magician Dynamo has thanked the Prince of Wales for believing in him when he was a “kid with crazy ideas”.

The magic man, 32, was at The Prince’s Trust annual Invest In Futures gala dinner at the Savoy Hotel in central London.

Dynamo, who started his career with a grant from The Prince’s Trust, paid thanks to Charles, telling the audience: “Prince Charles believed in me, this kid with crazy ideas like wanting to walk on the Thames.”

A spokeswoman from Clarence House said Charles also paid tribute to Dynamo, saying he was “hugely impressed” by Dynamo’s magic, adding: “I remember meeting Dynamo nearly 10 years ago and I can’t believe how much he has progressed. It’s astonishing.”

Next year marks 40 years since Charles set up the Trust and in that time the charity has supported more than 750,000 young people.

“With next year being the 40th anniversary we are going to try and make it even bigger,” Charles said, adding: “I believe we will be able to help more young people not just to survive but to live full and prosperous lives – and, surely, we owe that to our children and our children’s children.

“I can only urge you not to forget about those young people who we haven’t reached yet, who are out there right now with no hope for the future. They still need our help. Their young lives are in our hands.”

Since 2005, the Invest in Futures dinner and auction have raised more than £16 million for The Prince’s Trust.
