A 44-year-old man is due to face trial today accused of being responsible for a cyber-attack launched against the Home Office’s website.

Mark Johnson pleaded not guilty to a charge brought under the Computer Misuse Act during a short hearing at Birmingham Crown Court in May.

Johnson, of Josiah Wedgwood Street, Stoke-on-Trent, is alleged to have encouraged or assisted in a “distributed denial of service attack” on websites operated by the Home Office and the Home Secretary, Theresa May, on June 15, 2012.

The trial before Judge James Burbidge QC at Birmingham Crown Court is due to start today when the prosecution is expected to open its case.
