A man has appeared in court following a security alert at the Palace of Westminster.

Braydon Liam Anderson, 23, entered no pleas when he appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court before district judge Howard Riddle today.

Anderson, of Portland Place in Northampton, is charged with criminal damage and trespass on a protected site. He is accused of damaging up to £20,000 of property – including masonry, a stained glass window and an ornament – during the eight-hour stand-off with police until his arrest at 5.15am yesterday.

Anderson, wearing a grey jumper and trousers, was remanded in custody until a further hearing at the same court tomorrow.
