A man has been taken to hospital after being trapped in rubble when a chimney collapsed at a house.

The accident occurred at a home on Southampton Way in Camberwell, south London at around 2pm.

A second man was also taken to hospital while a woman was treated at the scene, Lon don Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

LFB station manager Bruce Grain, said: “Firefighters worked in difficult conditions to safely rescue the casualty from the rubble.

“The urban search and rescue team stabilised the property and used line rescue inside the building to remove larger pieces of rubble enabling them to free the man.”

A 25-metre hazard zone was created around the property and fire crews remain at the scene.

The cause of the chimney collapse is not yet known, LFB said.

A fire engine from Peckham fire station and fire rescue units from Brixton, Battersea, East Ham and Croydon fire stations attended the incident.
