A man who was arrested by police for assaulting his wife murdered her months later, a court heard.

Dexter Landsberg, 34, who was on bail for an attack on Madina Landsberg at the time she died, pleaded guilty to murder at St Albans Crown Court today.

The 31-year-old was discovered after police officers were called to the couple’s Hatfield home at around 8.30pm on June 10 this year.

Mrs Landsberg had been in touch with Hertfordshire Police over domestic violence claims prior to her death.

Landsberg was on bail for assaulting her and damaging her mobile phone two months before he killed her.

Abbas Lakha QC, defending Landsberg, said: “My client is anxious, I say this publicly.

“He would like to publicly apologise to Madina’s family and friends for what happened.”

Landsberg has been remanded in custody to be sentenced later this month.

After its contact with Mrs Landsberg Hertfordshire police referred itself to the police watchdog which advised the force to carry out its own investigation.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission spokesman said: “We received a referral from Hertfordshire Constabulary on 11 June 2014.

“After a careful assessment of the available evidence, we decided that Hertfordshire Constabulary should carry out a local investigation into their contact with Madina Landsberg prior to her death.

“We advised the force that if any evidence arises during their investigation that might merit this decision being reconsidered, this should be referred to us again.”

Herfordshire Police declined to comment.
