A pensioner is likely to die in prison after he was jailed for 15 years for historic sex offences.

Patrick Foley’s victim kept the sexual abuse she suffered at his hands secret for 40 years before coming forward and reporting it to Sussex Police.

The 83-year-old, of Prinsep Road, Hove, was convicted at Lewes Crown Court on Monday of seven counts of rape between 1968 and 1975, a police spokeswoman said.

The woman, who was known to Foley, was aged between 11 and 18 at the time the offences took place, she said.

Detective Constable Holly Hallahan said: “The victim has had to live with this for the last 40 years and this is a fantastic result for her.

“She has shown enormous courage in coming forward and talking to us about what she endured, and now she has the justice she deserves.

“I would urge anyone who has suffered any form of historic abuse to also have the courage to come forward.”
