A pilot has died after crashing during an aerobatics display.

Police were called to Old Buckenham Airfield near Attleborough, Norfolk, at about 2.40pm after a member of the public raised concerns about a plane which had been flying in the area.

It is understood the Edge 360 plane, flown by a pilot in his 50s, was taking part in a display at the time.

A media event to launch the Old Buckenham Airshow was being held at the site today.

A Norfolk Police spokesman said: ” Officers attended, along with colleagues from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and the East of England Ambulance Service, to find wreckage near to the airfield.

“Police believe one person has died as a result of the crash and officers are currently trying to identify and inform next of kin.”

An area of the airfield was cordoned off while officers dealt with the incident and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has been informed.
