Caroline Flack has topped the leader board on Strictly Come Dancing after “exploding” on to the dancefloor “like a little pot noodle”.

The presenter and her partner Pasha Kovalev scored 39 out of 40 for their Turkish-inspired Charleston in a global themed edition of the BBC dance show.

Flack was awarded much sought-after tens from judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli.

Head judge Goodman told her it was her best dance yet, while Tonioli said he “adored it”, and with a nod to Kovalev’s hat which looked like the style worn by late comedian Tommy Cooper, he added: “She sold it … just like that.”

Meanwhile, Craig Revel Horwood, who gave the couple a nine, told Flack she was “like a little pot noodle darling, exploding out there”.

Just trailing by one mark behind Flack, and tied in second place with 38 points each, were pop stars Pixie Lott and Simon Webbe.

Lott and her partner Trent Whiddon performed a Dutch-themed Viennese waltz – complete with tulips – that was described as “a bouquet of terrific dancing” by Goodman.

Tonioli said it was “like watching a delicate bloom swaying in the summer breeze”, while Bussell said it was “dainty and charming”.

Blue star Webbe and his partner Kristina Rihanoff danced the waltz and Goodman described the singer as the “comeback kid”.

The Saturdays star Frankie Bridge and her partner Kevin Clifton scored 36 for their jive.

Bussell described the star as “funky Frankie” while Goodman, making reference to their surfing theme, said she was “Frankie Bridge over troubled water”.

Tonioli said she was “on the crest of a wave” and said the dance was “full of boisterous enthusiasm”.

Casualty star Sunetra Sarker and her partner Brendan Cole found themselves at the bottom of the pile with a score of 27 after their rumba.

Former Towie star Mark Wright and his partner Karen Hauer scored 32 for their salsa, while EastEnders bad boy Jake Wood and his partner Janette Manrara scored 29 for their Argentine tango.
