Britpop pioneers Blur have said they would love Oasis to reform – so the Mancunian band could support them on tour.

The bands’ rivalry came to define the British music scene in the 1990s.

But recently reformed Blur said any tension between the bands had been eroded in recent years.

That was typified when former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher described Blur’s Lonesome Street – off new record The Magic Whip – as his “song of the year”.

Oasis split in 2009 after years of friction between Gallagher and guitarist brother Noel.

Blur bass player Alex James told the Mail on Sunday’s Event magazine: “Liam likes our new record and Damon (Blur frontman Albarn) and Noel have become best friends.

“So I really hope Oasis get back together again. I’d love them to support us.”

Blur play Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park on Saturday June 20.
