A major search will resume today for an 11-year-old boy who fell into a river.

Police, firefighters, a coastguard rescue team, the Ferryside inshore lifeboat crew and an RAF Sea King rescue helicopter have been at the River Towy in the Tanerdy area of Carmarthen.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the emergency services were alerted just before 4pm yesterday.

The search concluded last night, and teams were due to return to the river this morning in the hunt for the boy, who has not been identified.

Dyfed-Powys Police said specially trained officers are supporting the boy’s family.

“Police and other emergency services will continue to search in the morning for an 11-year-old boy who was reported to have fallen into the River Towy,” a police spokeswoman said last night.
