The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall had a date with a deadline when they visited the offices of one of the most widely read newspapers in the country.

Charles and Camilla met staff at the London Evening Standard as they gathered news and wrote stories for today’s editions.

The Duchess will later meet the young staff of First News as she officially opens its offices. With more than two million readers, First News is the most successful children’s newspaper in the world.

The couple toured the Standard’s busy newsroom, meeting journalists from the news, features, city and sports desks before Camilla picked up tips on the latest fashion, health and lifestyle from stories being written for the newspaper’s ES Magazine.

They then read some of the Standard’s prominent front pages from the past before being presented with their own framed proof of today’s front page.
