The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are to visit Australia and New Zealand in November – their second joint tour of the region.

Prince Charles and Camilla last visited the Pacific countries in November 2012 on a two-week trip to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Highlights of that tour included a sneak preview of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in New Zealand, a taste of traditional village life in Papa New Guinea and a hands-on experience of sheep shearing in Tasmania.

The next visit will be Charles’s 13th to Australia, and eighth to New Zealand.

The royal tour is intended to further strengthen relations between Britain and Commonwealth countries.

The planned tour may also coincide with Charles’s birthday, which he celebrates on November 14.

The announcement from Clarence House comes after Prince Harry returned from four weeks’ training with Australia’s armed forces in April, followed by a week-long tour to New Zealand in May.

The Prince received a kiss and a marriage proposal outside the Sydney Opera House and was greeted with a traditional Maori welcome upon landing in New Zealand.

Charles and Camilla frequently conduct official visits in the Autumn. The couple visited Colombia at the end of October last year, and in 2013 they spent a week in India.
