Singing star Sam Smith is among the acts nominated for a clutch of gongs at tonight’s Mobo Awards.

The chart-topper; who rose to prominence as the voice of Naughty Boy’s hit La La La, is up for four trophies – best male, best R&B/soul, best album for his debut In The Lonely Hour and best song for Stay With Me.

South London hip hop duo Krept & Konan are in the running for the same number, including best male and best album, at the ceremony celebrating UK urban talent.

Written In The Stars rapper Tinie Tempah is up for three awards, as is FKA Twigs, the singer-songwriter who is a hot tip for the Mercury Prize next week and has been linked to Hollywood star Robert Pattinson.

Guests expected to attend include X Factor judge Mel B and past panellists from the show Nicole Scherzinger and Tulisa Contostavlos, as well as Jamelia and Professor Green.

Smith and Krept & Konan face Fuse ODG, Ghetts and Tinie Tempah for best male, while FKA Twigs is up against Jessie J, Rita Ora, Marsha Ambrosius and Katy B for best female.

Beyonce, Chris Brown, Drake, Iggy Azalea, Pharrell and Nicki Minaj are among the nominees for International Act.

The BBC ended its TV coverage of the awards after a decade as a result of cost-cutting, but it is now to be screened by ITV2. The ceremony takes place at Wembley Arena, now known as the SSE Arena.
